You can use Wireshark on the server to inspect the syslog notification(s).Use the MIB Browser to check that the object has the stated original value, and then set it to the new value. Based on the last digit of your student ID, determine from the table below the object whose value you should set.Set the Wireshark display filter to display only syslog messages, and start capturing packets.Using a terminal window on the server, type "cd" to change directory to the home directory, and then "sudo wireshark" to start Wireshark.Use the passwords for TeamViewer and the server account, as provided on Moodle.Use TeamViewer to access the server GUI.Rather than send them to your computer (whose address may vary, and may not be running software to receive syslog notifications), they will be sent to the server 192.168.200.150 in the testbed whose GUI you will access through the TeamViewer software. The device that generates notifications must be configured to know where to send them. In this exercise you will see how network equipment can notify the network manager about events, first through syslog and then through SNMP trap messages.įor switches S1 (Host: 192.168.200.1) and S2 (Host: 192.168.200.2) reset their running configuration to their startup configuration.
